Crowds flock to outdoor_ispo
The outdoor segment which covered four exhibition halls and was accessible via a designated entrance, attracted more than 20,000 visitors. Hans Overduin, Bever Zwerfsport b.v.: “The atmosphere at the show was very good. The outdoor area with its designated expo area was particularly well exposed and provided a very good ambiance.”
The atmosphere was outstanding. The outdoor industry very much
appreciated the snow ice & rock summit, the Outdoor Get Together, and the
Boulder Cup. Outdoor exhibitors highly praised the outdoor exposition concept at
the ispo winter, the organization of the trade show, as well as the exceptional
service provided by the ispo team.
Visitor record at snow ice & rock summit – presented by Bergans of Norway
The multi-faceted and entertaining program at the snow ice & rock summit attracted close to 8,000 visitors to the generously designed summit in hall A6. On four trade show days the ispo and its partners provided a total of 35 hours of a high-caliber program as well as a relaxed and communication-friendly atmosphere for active idea and thought exchange. The partners, Bergans of Norway, Schoeller, and sportsella, were major contributors to the success of the platform. Media partners for the event included the magazines SkiPresse, Fri Flyt, and Berg & Steigen.
On the 1st show day the snow ice &
rock summit revolved around the DAV Boulder Cup. The list of competitors with
more than 100 international top climbers reflected a new record for the DAV and
its competition. A multitude of spectators flocked to the exciting event. In the
end, Andre Borowka won the men’s and Agelica Lind the women’s title.
The
Scandinavian Night was very popular as well as the subsequent 100 Years Bergans
of Norway Party. More than 1,200 guests celebrated the evening of the second
trade show day with finger food, a Scandinavian fashion show and relaxing music.
The highlight of the exciting program was a live appearance by Norwegian World
Idol winner Kurt Nielsen. Matthias Aßmann of Mandel Marketing & Strategy
Consulting: “The event was really great. Very professionally organized and
implemented. I really liked it. The guests did as well. All feedback I received
was positive.”
The professional public also enjoyed the
topic-specific presentations on sustainability, GPS navigation and trail
running. Representatives from a number of outdoor companies went on stage to
provide information on their strategies and concepts. Representatives from
outside the industry (e.g. Hess Natur) provided their expertise and gave a
glimpse outside the box. The training offered during the presentation on
“Outdoor Navigation” by Gerd Bittl (sportsella) continues to be available to all
interested retailers after the ispo at www.sportsella.de/trainings-outside.asp.
ppm-Magellan and Bergans of Norway are the sponsors. A backpack by Bergans of
Norway (Altitude Blue) and ten “Halten” shirts by Bergans of Norway will be
raffled off among the participants.
The exciting adventure reports by
Skyrunner Christian Stangl, the Dynafit-Gore-Tex Team (Sebastian Haag and
Benedikt Böhm), and the Federal Avalanche Commissioner Walter Würtl presented a
perfect compliment to the presentation topics, and provided visitors with a very
emotional glimpse behind the curtains.
Among the highlights was the
Outdoor Fashion Show, enjoyed several times a day by hundreds of international
trade show visitors. Anyone feeling the need to get active was at the right
place at the snow ice & rock summit: the six-meter-high slackline and the
climbing innovation Monkey Hardware got many a visitor’s adrenaline pumping.

Outdoor rocks! True to this motto more than 1,000 outdoor fans came together at the legendary industry meeting on the first evening of the trade show, and transformed the East Entrance into a bona fide party zone.
One spectacular act
followed the next: DJ Marc Uth (Redbull) arrived in a stylish Volvo, Spanish
cover band Los Salvapantallas moved the audience with old and new rock classics,
and a elaborately choreographed fashion show presented the outdoor trends for
the upcoming winter season. The presentation included the latest styles by
Columbia, Dare2be/regatta, Mammut, Bergans, Trespass, Rossignol, Canada Goose,
Merrell, Direct alpine, Bergson, and Dale of Norway.
In addition to
feasting on the musical highlights there was no need to go hungry. Munich-based
caterer Arena One offered a special culinary surprise: a suckling pig roast
waited in a specially designated outdoor area! Drinks were provided by Veltins
and Redbull.
Those who wanted to sit down rather than dance after a busy
day at the show were able to relax on the bizarre rock sofas by Xandi Kreuzeder
– comfortably – instead of hard rock the artistically recreated boulders were
made of comfortable foam material.
The party rocked until late at night.
To keep partygoers warm on their way home, Polartec provided each with a cozy
scarf or hat.

Founded in 2000, S.O.G. is a cooperation between leading Scandinavian outdoor companies with the goal to increase export, and improve the image of its members as suppliers of quality products and services.
In addition to joint exhibitions at trade shows, organizational and
promotional measures, as well as a joint involvement in environmental
protection, the S.O.G. offers retail training in cooperation with
Scandinavian Tourism and SAS, held under the name of Outdoor Academy of

The Winter Outdoor Market Is Growing
Last year’s rather moderate winter left its mark on industry, retail, and consumers alike. The latter reacted quickly and interchanged ski and snowboard against hiking boots, bikes, or climbing gear. Why not enjoy outdoor activities in winter, just because there is no snow? This means that the outdoor industry has to change its outlook and actions. Wanted are new ideas and options to react to such climatic fluctuations, and to offer the market a product selection suitable for 365 days of the year. Of course, this should be accomplished without damaging the climate and environment any further; recycled and sustainable materials are in demand like never before.
The trend is moving towards year-round collections – with a wide
range, flexible, and multi-functional. Instead of thick, lined apparel
against the bitter cold, the focus is on thermo-regulating and hybrid concepts,
such as offered by companies like Schöffel, Mammut, Salewa,
Berghaus, Halti, and Lundhags for the upcoming winter. Reima also starts the winter
season as a new all-round supplier. "The growth of the winter
outdoor market is enormous. It includes no longer just activities in snow. Whether
warm or cold, now we can provide our customers with the appropriate
products for winter," says Stefan Rosenkranz of Salewa. The multi-function
trend is also rampant among footwear manufacturers such as Icebug,
Timberland, or Merrell. Lighweight uppers are combined with robust sole elements to produce a lightweight, yet comfortable and solid shoe.
The focus continues to be on innovative and effective materials, as
well as high-tech manufacturing processes. In addition to capability
and durability the subject of weight reduction combined with high wear comfort is a
central concern. Not only the softgoods suppliers, the hardware experts also continue to work on the weight issue. "Every year Dynafit
interprets lightweight construction anew", explains Reiner
Gerstner with the help of the new collection.
"EcoDesign" has gained more importance on the outdoor
market than ever before. Sustainability programs such as Nike
Considered, Toray ecodreams or Polartec Eco-Engineering embody eco-friendliness from
production to delivery. The BAACODE by Icebreaker provides more transparency for the market. Companies such as Prana, Patagonia, and
Polartec dare to predict that they will produce about 20% of their
product selection from environmentally friendly materials by the end of 2008.

Fashion continues to inspire the program; fashion elements, modern
cuts, and eye-catching colors bring new life to the outdoor market. In addition to technical base products, companies such as Jack Wolfskin or
Berghaus promote their own, stylish Urban Outdoor lines, with a number of technical products suitable for everyday use.
