Telephoning with a glove, recharging a cellphone with a solar bag, measuring muscle functions
with jogging pants or shooting videos with a jacket: the keyword is "Wearable Technologies".
With the Wearable Technologies Show, which is taking place within the framework of ispo
winter 08 from January 27 to 30, the globally leading sporting goods trade fair is provide a
unique environment for marketing new technologies in the sports and lifestyle sectors. The
250 sq. m. large special exhibition is a focused presentation platform for WT products,
which are already on the market, on one hand, and on the other hand a networking event,
which brings together the sports and lifestyle industries with very different suppliers of innovative
technology.
In Hall A6 (booth 118), approx. 20 exhibitors will present their technologic product innovations.
The list of participating exhibitors ranges from innovative newcomers such Texsys,
Sunload and Polygiene to renowned clothing companies such as Falke and Swany and
industry bigs such as 3M, Bluetooth and Sefar all the way to the semiconductor manufacturer
Analog Devices.
Heating, cooling telephoning, filming, charging and navigatingThe variety of the presented products is almost unlimited too. Trendy topics this winter include
temperature regulation in clothing (heating and cooling), movement sensors for analyzing
body functions, odor-absorbing clothing, navigating and tracking as well as the use of
recycled fibers.
Sefar AG from Switzerland is exhibiting a unique heating fabric including novel control electronics,
which is also the core piece of the kidney belt "Miramichi" from Falke KG presented
for the first time. Pensonic Technologies from Hong Kong is also represented with heated
clothing. Entrak is moving in the opposite direction with a ventilated motorcycle jacket,
which is now appearing on the market in cooperation with the long-established company
Lodenfrey. And whoever starts to sweat can get help with Polygiene. The Swedes have
developed a technology based on the antibacterial effect of silver, which absorbs odors.
The "Active Odor Control" will be presented in Buff Headwear, among others.
The topic of "recharging by getting some rays", i.e., solar energy, is being dealt with by
three companies: The Berlin-based company Sunload is presenting a sport solar backpack
for the first time, Off-Grid Systems is exhibiting a new generation of outdoor-capable solar
charging stations in pocket format with the Sunbag S 2.0, and the SolarShopper from Andreas
Weber Design ensures that you never run out of energy even when shopping.
Texsys GmbH is making multimedia possible on the slopes: filming, video streaming and
mobile television integrated into a softshell designer jacket. But that's not all. Texsys is supplying
both the idea and integration of the world's first communication glove G-Cell, which
glove manufacturer Swany is now launching on the market. The glove is connected to a
cellphone via bluetooth and enables phone-free phoning in snow via integrated loudspeaker
and microphone as well as a vibration alarm at the wrist. Additional examples for wireless
communication and entertainment are being shown by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group,
an industry association which is promoting the latest version of the "Ultra Low Power Bluetooth"
for applications in the areas of sports and recreation. Products of the bluetooth member
companies Sony Ericsson, Nokia, Polar, Iqua and Motorola are in the pack with a bluetooth
watch, a solar headset, a hat with integrated loudspeakers and a GPS module for
cellphones, among other things. The Triton 2000 from Magellan provides mobile navigation,
the ideal handheld GPS for adventures with integrated basic maps, color touchscreen, recording
function and integrated 2-megapixel camera.
The semiconductor specialist Analog Devices, which revolutionized the market for video
games with the movement sensor technology in the Nintendo Wii, is also represented at a
Wearable Technologies booth to present additional applications of its three-dimensional
acceleration sensors in the sports market. The company Falke has already taken up this
future trend and is presenting tights with integrated measuring of muscle movements with
"Toronto".
3M is dealing with another very current topic. The multitechnology company with decades of
tradition in responsible handling of natural resources recently relaunched the successful
product Thinsulate insulation with 50% recycled fibers and manufactured from waste materials
such as water bottles.
Daily panel discussions (at 12 noon each day) at the Wearable Technologies booth Hall
A6.118 also provide insights into the following topics of the future:
Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008 Wearable Technologies & Motion Sensor Technology – New

Overview of WT exhibitors:3m: Thinsulate™ Insulation with recycled fibers"Thinsulate™ Insulation with Recycled Fibers" is composed of a mixture of recycled polyester
fibers and olefin microfibers. The unique microfibers keep you pleasantly warm without a
thick layer of down. The recycled fibers, manufactured from waste materials such as water
bottles, enable reuse of resources that otherwise would only wind up in a garbage dump.
The Thinsulate insulation contains 50% recycled material.
The worldwide market launch of "Thinsulate™ Insulation with Recycled Fibers" supports
3M's conviction to promote sustainable development via environmental protection, social
responsibility and economic progress.
In addition, the 3M Foundation has announced that it is donating a few million dollars
worldwide for supporting environment protection projects to conserve land and water.

the advantages of the recently set Ultra Low Power Bluetooth Standards for this industry.
Participants from the Bluetooth SIG, Texsys, Polar Electro, Nordic Semiconductor and Nokia
will describe their initial impressions of and predictions for this innovation.
www.bluetooth.comENTRAK GmbH & Co. KG: Ventilated Clothing for Sports & RecreationThe mode of operation of the ventilation is really simple and highly effective;
the inner material of the clothing is a 3-dimensional, pressure-resistant, interspace knitted
fabric. Two air cartridges in the form of small fans, which are placed in outer pockets at the
hips and are connected with the 3-D knitted fabric, start at the push of a button and distribute
air uniformly in the knitted fabric. The air circulates around the complete upper body of
the user. Moist air with sweat is transported away from the body surface and exchanged
with air from the surroundings. This supports the body's own heat regulation system by increasing
the evaporative heat loss. The product highlight at ispo winter 08 is a ventilated motorcycle jacket.

Falke KGaA: Waistband/Suspender belt with heating function "Miramichi""Miramichi" is a knitted waistband belt without side seams and made of PA/spandex. The
special detail is that there is a pocket on the inside in the back, which can hold a flat heating
element. The energy supply is via a battery, which can be kept in a small outside pocket.
The wearer can insert and remove both elements easily, so that waistband/hip belt can be
worn without these technical details too and above all washed without problems or restrictions.
The second Falke innovation at ispo winter 08 concerns tights with integrated measuring
of muscle movements: "Toronto".
