35 years after the sport was invented, snowboarding remains a strong and vibrant culture that has inspired fashion and lifestyle elements. After the bonanza of the ’80s and the consolidation of the ’90s, the 2000s present a more mature version of this action-packed and fun sport, which is still influencing the looks and values of new generations. board_ispo shop summit – an unbiased meeting spot for retailers and industry
The highlight of this year’s board_ispo shop summit, under the motto “one stop shop for shops”, was the opportunity for retailers to meet and consult with experts on a complimentary basis. Millhaus, Finelines Marketing, and Q-Parks were the three high-caliber companies on location.
Retailers who took the time
to attend were able to take home a number of new ideas and inspirations. Yet the
experts had competition: the Source Job Agency was definitely the attraction
magnet of this year’s event. A total of 60 different job offerings, resumes and
distributor-wanted ads, were posted at the Job Agency...there was hardly a
minute when there was a lull in the copying of contact addresses or telephone
numbers from the provided postings.
The shop summit at ispo winter 08,
well-known as the booth with the ADAC helicopter, welcomed Recco as a new
partner for this winter, a fact which culminated in a live interview with Jeremy
Jones. Bernd Zehentleitner, avalanche delegate of the Mountain Rescue from the
International Alpine Rescue Commission, functioned as the Recco expert at the
booth. Among other products, he introduced the latest Recco search beacon
weighing in at only 0.9 kg. The board_ispo shop summit booth not only functioned
as a business booth, but also as the usual, relaxed party and chill-out meeting
spot. On Sunday, the free Swiss magazine "Whiteout" held a booth party; on
Monday, the Austrian 69 Mag organized a great bash!
Last but not least,
the traditional Weißwurst Breakfast on Wednesday was another great success.
Close to 300 visitors came to enjoy the Bavarian specialty. Wednesday’s program
at the summit included web communities and video pages, among them shralp.com,
entertainyou.tv, massivemoves.com, playboard.de, freecaster.com, twoleftfeet.ch,
sweetspots, funsporting.de and more.
Unique snowboard action at the 2nd edition of Quiksilver – DAS RAIL presented by ispo
The contemporary art museum and Munich city landmark, ‘Haus der Kunst’ once more delivered the perfect backdrop for one of the most amazing snowboard contests in Europe. The rider list of this Snowboard Handrail Contest read like the Who’s Who of progressive urban freestlye and included 22 riders from 10 nations. Cheered to victory by more than 3000 visitors on-site, Lucas Magoon from the US took first place, followed by Max Legend (CAN) and Hans Åhlund (SWE).
For the second time, Quiksilver and ispo joined forces to create an
urban snowboard experience of its own. The marble pillars of the
‘Haus der Kunst’ venue in the city center of Munich
provided a unique backdrop for a spectacular handrail session. 22
internationally acclaimed riders were showing a new level of urban snowboarding. The jam format kept pushing
the riders to their limits on the 11m long cast-iron steel rail at the
renowned art museum
After the 90 minute Jam Session, 8 riders - Hans Åhlund (SWE),
Max Legend (CAN), Florent Marot (FRA), Lucas Magoon (USA), Sami
Sarenpää (FIN), Fredu Sirvio (FIN), Gulli Gudmundsson (IS)
and Dan Brisse (USA) - qualified for the final session to compete for
the prize money of EUR 9.000. An additional EUR 1.000,- was allocated
to the riders in the interactive “The Moneysession” –
spectators applause decide which of the riders cash in directly. Sami
Sarenpää (FIN) was clearly the public’s favourite as
well as being a big contender for the final session. Unfortunately he
fell and could not continue the session.
In the following final it was a close call between the eight riders as
the riding level was high. With the last trick of the evening, Lucas
Magoon delivered the best trick, a perfectly stylish bluntslide 50/50
to 180 across the whole 27-stair handrail. Second place went to Max
Legend from Canada with a backside lipslide, and Hans Ahlund took home
third place.
The “Quiksilver – DAS RAIL” event was followed by a
great night at the Onboard Aftershow Party. DJ Colas from France
delivered nice tunes until the Pressemitteilung early hours and put the
icing on the cake the second edition of “Quiksilver – DAS
RAIL” presented by ispo.
